Home of Texas A&M University (although the university came first). Population 107,889 (from the 2015 U.S. Census). The city got its name because the Houston and Texas Central Railway used to stop here. In 1860 the railroad built a station and the conductor would call out "college station" to announce their arrival at Texas A&M. The station itself was located between the tracks and Wellborn Road just south of Old Main Drive. The historic building was demolished in 1966 to allow for the widening of Wellborn Road.
